Hmm, sobering article. Perhaps I need to lay low for a while.
That title was an attention-getter, but the article itself wasn't anti-blogger.
In job hunting there are certain things which are illegal or unprofessional for an employer to ask. However, if the candidate himself brings it up, the subject is fair game. So if you're going to rant on a blog and then include it in your resume, you deserve what you get.
However, I found the idea of someone doing a web search on you to be rather chilling. (Now if you mention a website and direct them to a URL, that's a totally different matter.)
* What if you blog but go to reasonable lengths to protect your identity from the casual searcher?
* What if you're mentioned in an online source for having done some nice or even controversial thing with your church?
* What if you don't blog, but your kid blogs and rants about what an aweful parent you are?
* What if someone finds out something about you which would be illegal to ask you about in the interview process?
